Happy Matt-ers

Delivered my latest tie-in the other day (only three weeks late, which is a considerable achievement for me, these days.  I am taking a couple days off to do the sort of household tasks that fall to the wayside during bouts of Deadline Fever.

During this temporary tie-in hiatus, I am:

Working on the Barra & Co. books, in hopes that we might be able to bring them out as e-books and PoD type things later this year (finally!).

Organizing the notes & outline of His Father's Fist.

Getting my urban thriller past the outline stage, and the same for my historical(s).

Looking for a place where I can hit people and vice versa without any hard feelings or legal entanglements.

Looking into Pose/barefoot running, as it's supposed to take the stress off your knees, because mine don't have a hell of a lot of cartilage left.

That's all.

Have a nice day.

Whats the tie-in for?

Hey Matt,

Long time lurker on here but I think it's about time I get in the game.

My sister across the country finally checked her storage for a box of my books and brought me my copy of Blade of Tyshalle for Christmas which has sent me careening again into Caine. I've also read Caine Black Knife again, because of this, and forced Heroes Die onto a friend. It seems I'll be reading that bad boy yet again after I get it back.

I cannot fucking wait for His Father's Fist .

I should also say Shatterpoint made up for a lot of what the prequels did to me and your Revenge of the Sith made me watch the movie again, thinking, "Why again didn't I enjoy this movie?"

The result of said viewing was a resounding, "Oh that's why," so... maybe I shouldn't thank you too much for that one...

I'm sure you get it a lot, and this is a public forum so I won't get too fucking weepy, but you should know your books, and Caine... they've done a lot for me. They live inside me. They're phenomenal things and they have, reading them has, enhanced the shit out of my life.

If you're still around Chicago, shoot me an email and I've got some suggestions for places you could find good dudes for the sort of brotherly beatings you're looking for. I've got some in Los Angeles, too, if you're ever around here.

YES on the Pose running, man. It's no joke. I always hated road work... well I still hate road work, but it's certainly a lot less painful with Pose and barefoot stuff. Toe strikes are where it's at. Your calves will be sore as a bitch until you get used to the way you need to relax them, preventing your toes from pushing off explosively each time, and until they get conditioned to the new movement, but your joints will fucking thank you.

And I will thank you, again. Not for switching your running technique but cause it was an easy segue to the end of this post. For everything you've done without knowing it. Happy coincidence, finding your stuff, actually being gifted it by my father, but then again... when you look back on something it always seems like destiny, right?

Look forward to more of your blog and more of your books.

WOOOOOOOOOOO TIE-IN!

tie-in? you mean the God of War novel? haven't played the games but considering how well you do with anti-heroes and the bronze age, I'll probably read it anyhow

Jarrett -- pleased yo make your e-quaintance. And thanks very much for the kind words on Caine . . . he's kind of a life-long project for me, I think.

Unfortunately, I' way the hell out in the depths of Lower Suburbia -- sixty-and-change miles from Chicago. I'm looking for something a little more local than that . . .

I'm not sure that the franchise in question has actually announced that I'm doing this particular tie-in, so I feel I shouldn't talk too much about in on the Intertubes. On the other hand, when it does come out, I think it'll be pretty good. It's also a gaming tie-in, but I was given considerable latitude in constructing and telling the story.

If you're looking for a Star Wars equivalent, it's in SHATTERPOINT territory: as in, they hired me because what they were looking for is more-or-less right in my wheelhouse.

The final product, though, we'll just have to wait and see. This is my first project for this franchise, and so I'm not sure how much Necessities will be imposed by the Powers That Be. There is, however, reason for hope, because the editor is a truly fine human being, with whom I have had the privilege of being acquainted for a few years now. And he likes Caine.

GOD OF WAR was, between you and me, a less-than-stellar experience. It's a tie-in for a Sony franchise. Credit for the final product should be as much Sony's as mine, and probably more so.

In the end, it's their story. That's how they wanted it, and that's how they got it.

Matt, good to see you back on the saddle.

I'd give my left testicles for some Caine teasers. Just sayin'

A couple of weeks after I bought my Vibram 5fingers I gave 8 pairs of shoes to Goodwill.

In 2001 I folded my knee sideways, very bad day, and tore my medial lateral ligament in half. After a year of rehab I got function mostly back - occasional trick knee fun - but still had frequent pain in cold weather... until I got the 5fingers. Pain is gone, occasional dysfunction is gone, knee works great. Just walking around for a couple of weeks fixed the knee; but yeah, 3 miles of roadwork, at least, doesn't hurt now.

MMA gyms are sprouting like weeds everywhere, surely you can hit somebody; google zip code mma? Suburbia, ouch; I'd miss Degerberg too.

I got my hopes up when I saw Del Rey was releasing a book with the game Dante's Inferno. I mean who else do you give a call to for "The Nine Circles of Hell". But... It was just the original story with some commentary from the game creators. *shrug*

Just bumped into an article about barefoot running, with an interesting graph about the differences in force based on toe-first vs heel- first. Mostly I just wanted to echo what jarrett said. Keep up the good work.

And if anyone is interested in the artcle:

Hey MWS it's great to see you have an active blog. The Caine-ology has given me hope for good story telling and reinforced my hate for all things Twilight.

Gotta say being military I read alot and I stumbled upon BT in England some years ago. Talk about a mind job. You really should give Terry Gookind a square kick in the nuts for his "always right, perfect and dashing hero."

Aside from that I'm eternally the fan and hope you can find some way to give Caine some more God slaying time. And Mace Windu is the primo badass thanks to SP.

Oh any words of wisdom for an aspiring writer?

POSE/Barefoot running should be phased in. That shit will kill your feet if you're not ready for it. INOV-8 has a great progression chart for you to follow if you wanna give it a shot.
