Happy Fucking Birthday Mr Stover

Happy Birthday to Me

Y'know what I want for my birthday?

"Offer me money . . ."

"Yeah, money -- tax cuts are good fer ever'body . . ."

"Offer me anything I want . . ."

"Yes . . . property in the middle east . . . yes, anything. ANYTHING!"

I want my country back, you son of a bitch.

Where's John Dean when you need him?

I have an idea. Fuck pledging allegiance to the flag. Let's pledge allegiance to the Constitution.

That's what I did.

That's what I thought Bush did. Apparently he had other ideas . . .

It's that old conservative shuffle. We are men of principle -- right up until those principles might get in the way of power. Then we're just men.

At best.

Ahh, I always get cranky on my birthday.

Happy birthday, Matt!

As a birthday present to you (and myself) I finally tracked down a brand new copy of "Iron Dawn" and bought it, and I can't wait to begin reading it. It looks great on the shelf next to all your other books (I now have all of your published books, so get cracking on Caine Black Knife!).

I wish you could get your country back, too. I don't mean to make you crankier, but here's a link I thought you might be interested in:

http://www.reason.com/0501/fe.ps.cut.shtml

Here's a clip from the above article, in case the link doesn't work:

"Agencies tasked with defending America from terrorism were among the top employers of workers with phony diplomas identified by the GAO. The Department of Defense employs 257 of them. Transportation has 17. Justice has 13; Homeland Security, 12; Treasury, eight.
The GAO also found that two diploma mills alone have received a total of nearly $170,000 in payments from a dozen federal agencies for tuition for 64 employees. [...] as a serial fake-diploma shopper, Callahan is one of the worst offenders among the senior officials identified from the eight federal agencies the GAO surveyed. At least 28 senior-level employees had degrees from diploma mills, the GAO found, while cautioning that 'this number is believed to be an understatement'."

I'm disturbed. I'm very disturbed. (Just as a note, I found the above piece on Neil Gaiman's blog, which is well worth checking out; his books are fantastic, as well!)

Anyway, on a happier note, there's only four more years of Bush, right? And there is some comfort in knowing that nearly everyone who has the guts to talk seems to hate Bush, as well (where did all those Republican voters come from?).

Happy birthday again!

Dim Halo

PS. I'm happy to hear you're going to be at Star Wars Celebration III! I'll see you there!

Four more years of Bush.

A generation of conservative party hacks dominating the US Supreme Court.

We're fucked, man.
