We are the Empire.

Is anybody out there?
Is anybody LISTENING?
Jesus CHRIST. What does it TAKE for people in this country to WAKE UP AND SMELL THE FUCKING SWASTIKAS?
But Wait, There's More!
A relevant quote:
Two years ago, an unnamed Bush aide told Suskind, "We're an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you're studying that reality—judiciously, as you will—we'll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that's how things will sort out. We're history's actors ... and you, all of you, will be left to just study what we do."

Does anyone out there still think this is just some kind of fucking joke?

Hey Matt, have you looked at this site?
(warning: episode 3 spoilers)
http://www.millenniumfalcon.com/
They post up dialogue every few days.. and it looks like it is straight out of the novel.
Uh, Matt. It's not news. It's just a refusal to admit to it, or accept that empires don't have to be based on physical conquest anymore.
William Blum points out this fact quite well right over here:

Shevchyk
Hey whoeveryouare up there.
I would have looked at that millenniumfalcon site, but apparently I've been banned. Somehow. Before they even know I'm there. Or something.
Oh, and Shev?
I meant "THE Empire."
There's a reason why Cheney's nickname is Darth . . .
Apologies, that was my comment up there.
If you'd like, I can paste here what MF.com has put up today.
And in response to the articles... "The Propaganda President" has fooled most of America, for sure. Hell, I was fooled all the way up until the Iraqi bombings began. The fact that he can pass him off for a dumbass just helps his administration out.
The funny thing is they're not even subtle about their intentions. THE Empire, or an empire.. it doesn't matter--they're looking to conquer the whole fucking world under the names of Freedom and Liberty.
And God help anyone who gets in their way.

Matt,
What d'ye mean THE empire, as opposed to *an* empire? My thinking here is: we don't need to operate any longer on the notion of territorial conquest; it's an economic matter now. I want to make sure I actually understand what YOU meant, as opposed to what I THINK you meant.
Thinking of Marx here, who I've been reading recently, I offer the following citation from the Communist Manifesto:
"It [the bourgeoise] compels all nations, on pain of extinction to adopt the bourgeoise mode of production; it compels them to introduce what it calls civilisation into their midst, ie., to becocme bourgeoise themselves. In one word, it creates a world after its own image." (Engels & Marx, C.M., Part I: Bourgeoise & Proletarians)
That thought had me worried about the fact that the two most commonly recognisable signs in the world are the arrow and the Coca Cola sign. That's creepy. Well, maybe not the arrow, but certainly the latter.
Have you looked @ the comments @ the bottom of the slate article you posted, Matt? Several of them make the same comment: He's Anti-American.
And the people who make those kinds of accusations don't know what their own Constitution and Bill of Rights happen to say about dissent within the US. Likewise on the matter of division of powers.
It makes me think that the future needs to see the passing of legislation that makes it illegal for any one political group to maintain control of all 3 branches of the government.
Shev
Shev -- by The Empire, I mean the one Luke Skywalker was fighting. The one that blew up Alderaan because Dantooine was too remote to make an instructive lesson.
Like Grand Moff Rumsfeld planning to bomb Iraq because there weren't enough good targets in Afghanistan . . .
That legislation would be irrelevant.
As Warren Beatty memorably put it: "This country doesn't need a third political party. It needs a second one."
Heh.
US soldier takes out Terrorist Scum with Vorpal Blade +2!
Oh, sure. Everybody knows that Vorpal weapons are +3.
Loser.
Sorry - couldn't help myself.
A little something I came across today, Matt:
http://www.amconmag.com/2005_02_14/article.html
If I remember correctly, Vorpal weapons were +5...
..And people wonder why I want to return home. Quickly.
